My name is Don Clark and I am seeking another term in the North Dakota House of Representatives.  I was born in the small town of Woodworth located NW of Jamestown in Stutsman County.  I went to grade school there and graduated from Woodworth High School in the spring of 1957.  I enrolled that fall as a freshman in the NDSU School of Engineering and graduated in the spring of 1961 with a BS in Civil Engineering.  I had five job offers only one of which would allow me to stay in North Dakota so I chose to work for the State of North Dakota as a Project Engineer on Interstate Highway construction.

My work took me from project to project around the state.  I worked in Valley City, Oriska, Minot, Bismarck, Bottineau, Dickinson, Belfield, Richardton, and Hebron.  In May of 1964 I joined Mid America Steel as a project estimator.

In 1978 Mid America Steel opened a new fabrication facility in Bismarck, I was sent there as Manager for five years.  In July of 1983 I moved back to Fargo and became Sales Manager for Mid America Steel.  In 1993 I became President and in 2002 was made Chairman of the Board.  It has been my good fortune to be affiliated with this fine company, which will be 100 years old in 2005.

I am a member of First Lutheran Church as well as the Fargo Optimist Club.  I have served on the Board of Directors of the AGC of North Dakota.  I am currently a board member of the Central Fabricators Association in Chicago, and a member of the FM Engineers Club.  I have always enjoyed the shooting sports and am a member of Ducks Unlimited and am a life member of the NRA.  I am a registered Engineer in the States of North Dakota and Missouri.

My wife Judith and I have been married 40 years.  We have three children and live at 3001 Hickory Street in Fargo.  We have lived in District 44 almost continually since 1970 with the exception of those five years in Bismarck.

My career has been in business, however in this position I have been able to make significant financial contributions to educational institutions in the area.  I have been in a position to support NDSU, Moorhead State, Mary College, Bismarck State, Concordia, Shanley, Oak Grove, and St. Mary’s High School in Bismarck.

I serve on the interim Economic Development Committee that is currently working to craft legislation for economic development for the next session.  I also serve on the Commerce Committee, which covers Workforce Safety Issues, Unemployment Compensation, and solvency of the UC Trust fund.
